Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Dr. Rodwell’s experience gives him a unique advantage in being able to treat the nose inside and out.  In addition to being a facial plastic surgeon, he is also board certified in Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat surgery) giving him the ability to provide expert treatment for chronic sinus infections and problems with breathing through the nose.

It is not uncommon for a crooked or twisted nose to be an outward sign that there are many more problems on the inside such as a deviated septum.  Sometimes  functional nasal surgery for breathing problems can provide relief, but your surgeon needs to be able to recognize and appropriately treat chronic sinus infections that often accompany these other problems.

Chronic sinus infections and related problems can be caused by a variety of issues such as:

  • A deviated septum
  • Swollen turbinates
  • Nasal allergies
  • Crowded and narrow sinus drainage pathways

If you also dislike the shape of your nose, a cosmetic rhinoplasty can be performed at the same time in some cases.

Incredibly diligent, patient, helpful, steady-handed (always appreciated), and knowledgeable of course.

Dr. Rodwell’s Approach to Sinus Surgery

Sinus problems need to first be treated medically before surgery is ever even considered.

Dr. Rodwell has years of experience in helping patients and their primary care doctors optimize the medical treatment of chronic sinusitis.  In many cases, referral to an Allergist can be very helpful.

If symptoms persist despite good medical management then surgery is often indicated.  Dr. Rodwell will work with your other doctors and carefully review CT scans to determine if you are a good candidate for sinus surgery.  Dr. Rodwell is skilled with the most cutting edge techniques of endoscopic sinus surgery including the use of image guidance to make your surgery as safe and efficient as possible.

Dr. Rodwell will tell you what will take place during your customized procedure and what you can expect before, during, and after surgery. No incisions are needed on the outside of the nose, and whenever possible Dr. Rodwell avoids using uncomfortable nasal packing after surgery.

What to Expect After Sinus Surgery

Most patients choose to take at least 3-4 days off from work info longer.  Some nasal congestion, mild drainage, and some fatigue are common as you begin to heal. You can take pain medication and use cold packs to ease discomfort, and keeping your head elevated for several days will also reduce inflammation.

You will see Dr. Rodwell for regular follow-up appointments, and he will do everything he can to make your recovery period comfortable and as speedy as possible.
