Earlobe Reduction

Earlobe Reduction

One of the surprises of the aging process is a change in the appearance of the earlobes. The earlobes can elongate and sag from both the natural effects of aging skin and gravity as well as the pull of earrings over time. Dr. Rodwell performs Earlobe Reduction to correct this issue and restore the earlobes to a normal size and youthful appearance.

Many women opt to have earlobe reduction along with a facelift. When the earlobes show signs of aging, they look unnatural next to the more youthful face created by a facelift.

Dr. Rodwell has performed many successful earlobe reductions – a procedure that not many surgeons offer.

Dr. Rodwell is a knowledgeable, devoted, and caring physician.

Why consider Earlobe Reduction?

Earlobe Reduction can:

    • Restore elongated or sagging earlobes to a normal size
    • Make the earlobes look more youthful

Dr. Rodwell’s Approach to Earlobe Reduction

Dr. Rodwell will consult with you to find out how you wish your earlobes to look, and he will devise a surgical plan to bring you the results you want.

Earlobe reduction can easily be performed using a local anesthetic and sedation, but if performed during a facelift under general anesthesia, the earlobe reduction will be done as part of that procedure.

Excess tissue is removed from the earlobes, including a reduction of earring holes, if necessary, and the tissue is sutured in the new size and shape. Dr. Rodwell uses a technique which avoids any obvious scars once the incisions heal.

The goal, whenever possible, is to create a more youthful and natural-looking earlobe that can support earrings again after the healing process.

What to Expect After Earlobe Reduction

When performed by itself, recovery from earlobe reduction is usually quite fast with minimal bruising, tenderness, and swelling. Most patients are able to return to work and normal activities within a few days. Dr. Rodwell will let you know what you can expect before, during, and after your surgery.

If your earlobe reduction is done in conjunction with a facelift, it will not add to your recovery time.

Any external stitches will be removed within 4-5 days. Most patients cannot wear earrings for a period of six weeks or longer after the surgery, and all patients should avoid heavy earrings. In most cases, a new earring hole will have to be pierced, but this is very easily performed in the office. Dr. Rodwell will give you full post-operative instructions with regard to care and earring use.
