Neck Liposuction

Neck Liposuction

Excess fat in the neck can be a result of aging or weight gain. Whatever the reason, it can cause a great deal of self-consciousness. Neck liposuction is an excellent technique for removing the excess fat, including a double chin. As a result, it’s a popular procedure with both men and women.

Kybella is one non-surgical option for reducing a double chin, and is a good alternative to liposuction for patients desiring a little less downtime.  It involves a series of injections to dissolve the fat over time.  This is a great option for younger patients with good skin elasticity who desire improvement with less downtime.

Most of our patients deciding between Kybella and liposuction end up choosing liposuction once they realize how easy the procedure and recovery period are.  New advancements in technology have allowed us to enhance liposuction results by using FaceTite radiofrequency assisted liposuction to not only reduce fat but tighten the skin and deeper supporting layers for a more defined jawline and neck.

If you have excess skin or muscle bands in the neck, as well as excess fat, a necklift or a facelift may be required along with neck liposuction to restore a tighter, more youthful appearance.

During your consultation, Dr. Rodwell will examine you carefully to determine if neck liposuction, FaceTite, or Kybella injections are sufficient to provide the result you want. In some cases, neck liposuction, along with injectables/fillers might be enough to both remove fat and count the jawline.

Why consider Neck Liposuction?

Neck Liposuction can:

  • Eliminate a double chin
  • Tighten the jawline
  • Remove excess fat in the neck

Dr. Rodwell’s Approach to Neck Liposuction

Dr. Rodwell performs tumescent liposuction, in which a numbing solution is used to reduce bruising and inflammation, allowing for a faster recovery time. He makes very small incisions, usually under the chin, and removes the excess fat through a tube called a cannula.

The procedure is minimally invasive, so it is usually performed with light sedation and a local anesthetic in the office.  Some patients may choose to have general anesthesia for their comfort if desired.  You can go home the same day, but someone must drive you home.

The majority of liposuction procedures performed by Dr. Rodwell now include the use of FaceTite radiofrequency assisted liposuction.  In some cases he will perform the EmbraceRF procedure along with liposuction.  EmbraceRF is a combination of FaceTite plus Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling which provides even more skin tightening benefits.

What to Expect After Neck Liposuction

Some swelling, mild bruising, and soreness are to be expected after neck liposuction, but the discomfort is usually minimal and quickly improves. Most patients take up to a week off from work, and pain medication can be taken if needed.  A compression garment is used to reduce swelling and provide support during the healing process.

Dr. Rodwell will monitor your progress and will provide you with full post-operative instructions. When the swelling has subsided, you will be able to see the tighter chin, jawline, and neck you wanted.

FAQs for Neck Liposuction | Charleston Facial Plastic Surgery

The cost for liposuction around the neck depends upon a variety of factors. This includes aspects such as the amount of excess fat around your neck, the intensiveness of the process, and any special considerations during the procedure.

Due to this reason, it is important that you have a detailed consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon. This provides you with a personalized cost estimate for your neck liposuction. At the Charleston Facial Plastic Surgery, we make it a point to understand your concerns and provide you with a detailed breakdown of costs for your South Carolina neck liposuction.

When stubborn fat is removed from your neck through liposuction, your skin may feel loose right after the procedure. But with proper aftercare, your skin will start to adjust to the new contours of your neck. Typically, neck liposuction is all that you need to obtain a slimmer and firmer neck profile.

However, in cases where you have excessive fat around the neck or have skin laxity issues, your skin might not properly cling back to the new form of your neck. In these situations, your surgeon may advise you to also consider a neck lift to eliminate the excess skin from your neck and provide you with the youthful look that you want.

Turkey neck occurs due to excess skin around the neck. When loose skin gathers together under your chin, it gives off the wrinkly formation that is known as turkey neck. While liposuction only removes excess fat, you can turn to a neck lift to remove this unwanted and loose skin from your neck. This gives your neck a firmer and more defined shape that takes years off your appearance.

If you maintain your weight after your neck liposuction, there are minimal to no chances for your neck fat to come back. However, if you gain extra weight after the procedure, you might start noticing pockets of fat around your neck again.

Keeping this in mind, make sure to practice a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise after your liposuction. This ensures that you can get long-lasting results from your neck liposuction and continue to enjoy the look of your ideal neck profile.

You will not be awake during a neck liposuction. Before starting the liposuction procedure, your surgeon and their medical team will use general anesthesia to help you get comfortable during the surgery. This ensures that your surgery can be performed without any issues. After your surgery, you will recover in a dedicated room within the facility, where you wake up under the observation of qualified medical professionals.

If you have any issues with general anesthesia, you can discuss them with our team at Charleston Facial Plastic Surgery to explore your options.

You can certainly have neck and chin liposuction at the same time. However, it depends upon the amount of fat and the laxity of your skin among other factors.

After a detailed consultation with your surgeon at Charleston Facial Plastic Surgery, you can determine if the approach is the right fit for you. If other treatment options are available for your concern, our experts will inform you so that can also consider these.
