Morpheus Microneedling

Morpheus Microneedling

Skin laxity and soft tissue sagging are problematic for all patients over a wide range of ages. Likewise, there is a broad range of treatments. The addition of Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling expands our options to effectively treat many problem areas with customized treatment plans that often involve other treatments such as laser skin resurfacing or facelift surgery.

RF microneedling causes skin tightening in two ways.

First, the areas of microtrauma from the small needle insertions of the device stimulate a healing response in the skin leading to improved elasticity and collagen growth. Next, there is a short pulse of radiofrequency energy delivered through the device for enhanced tightening.

The new Morpheus8 device goes beyond other similar treatments by offering a customizable depth of treatment that can be set to have much deeper lasting effects compared to other RF microneedling devices. With this approach, the skin can be improved, but when needed some additional deep tissue tightening and contouring can also be achieved.

Another advantage of the Morpheus8 device is that the microneedles are insulated with a silicone coating to avoid too much heat being delivered to the skin. This is important for all patients but is especially critical in patients with darker skin tones at risk for hyperpigmentation after non-surgical skin tightening procedures.

Morpehus8 is combined with FaceTite for the minimally invasive EmbraceRF procedure. The combination of the two procedures allows for a truly customizable solution to address sagging and excess fat. With this technology, we can contour and lift in ways that were not possible in the past.

Dr. Rodwell’s Approach to Morpheus8 Microneedling

Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling can be used alone or in combination with other procedures, allowing the treatment options to be tailored for each patient. Dr. Rodwell prefers to focus on big picture long term plans instead of quick fixes that often leave patients wanting or needing more once the early effects begin to fade.

If performed alone, most patients get the best benefit from a series of Morpheus8 treatments, but one session will provide improvement. In other cases, a single Morpheus8 RF microneedling treatment is all that is needed to enhance the outcome when combined with other procedures.

Your comfort is a priority, and the entire experience at Charleston Facial Plastic Surgery is designed with that in mind. Radiofrequency microneedling is done after first applying a topical anesthetic cream to the skin. Some patients may choose to use our ProNox machine (laughing gas) to feel more relaxed during the procedure.

What to Expect After Radiofrequency Microneedling

Downtime is minimal, but all patients should expect some redness and mild swelling for 2-3 days on average depending on the areas treated. Bruising is unlikely. In some cases, there can be some peeling of the skin depending on the depth of the treatment.

As with all other non-surgical skin tightening procedures, there is a delay before final results are seen with continued improvements over several months.
